The Three “C’s” to a Successful Life
One of the hottest topics these days is about success. Seems a lot of people are trying to figure out how to be successful at work, at play or at home.
First thing is I admire the people who take a moment in their valuable time space to think about success. The truth is you are hard-wired for success, yet, sometime gets in the way. Distraction is the most common thing getting in our pathway to success – especially those of us who are continuously multi-tasking under the false assumption of being more productive. 🙁
When I began to think more about success I found a ton of information on the topic and got a little overwhelmed with the process of learning about success. Thanks goodness one of my natural strengths is problem solving and another strength is to simplify the complex into usable steps.
Those I discovered the 3 “C’s” to a Successful Life. This includes all the different “at’s” you desire doing for success . 🙂
Here are my Three “C’s” to a Successful Life…
Everything you do starts with a choice you make. You must decide to take action or launch on something you desire or want to eliminate. I remember one of my first major choices – to go into business for myself. It was scary and failure was an option that I wanted to avoid at all costs. Yet, this one choice – a decision point made – launched my career to a new level of success I had not imaged before. The people I have met, the people I have helped (all around me!) and the freedom in provided – still amazes me today.
The Key is always remember “Everything Counts” regarding a choice you make. Have I been perfect in my choices – unfortunately no. Ate the wrong foods for years before learning to make better choices to safe my health. And, the list as a business goes on as to poor decisions made. Yet, even more important in some cases is to undo a previous decision and correct your pathway to a new target. Again, a Choice made and Action taken.
Playing it safe is a fools game. Even the bible has a story about the man who buried his coins for fear of losing them – and lost anyway! Life is a game of taking chances – calculated RISK – and it is a good thing to practice. Please understand – I am not advocating for you to bet the bank or risk everything you have. What I’m saying is you must stretch yourself – move out of your common zone – or you will die a slow and painful life.
“The Key Reason to take a Chance is to Gain a Reward”.
Significant rewards can only come from taking a chance on something or someone. To grow faster than you have in the past is take new chances, learn how to achieve at a new level and push yourself to the next level of success. (By the way, Success is something you define for your life. Your Success may not include getting rich or famous. You may have different definitions of success which is great. Remember, Success is Personal, just make sure you know your definition or it will be much harder to achieve.)
To use a monetary example regarding chance or risk is about returns on investment. If you only invest in sure things – like a Treasury Note – you will receive a very small return on your investment. As you increase your risks, the returns on your investment have the opportunity to increase to a higher level. Thus, you are taking a “chance” on your investment. However, if you use a diverse portfolio of investments you will get a higher return than the cost of living increases and accumulate some additional wealth or resources.
In life, you and I must decide first what is important. Then you take a chance to get to the higher level of success you desire. There will be some risk involved in your life choices. This includes impact upon your family, your security, where you live, etc. Yet, the great thing is you control the degree of chance you take at all times. And, chances taken are important to your long-term growth.
Okay, so now you have make choices and taken chances – what is so important about changes?
Changes are the necessary elements as you grow in experience, wisdom, knowledge and insights. Yes, as you gain in these areas, you will face more decisions and risks regarding what to do next? An interesting fact about growth. The more you learn about things – the more you realize what else you don’t know! Therefore, changes become a regular part of your life cycle.
The Key to Making the Right Changes is Continuous Learning.
Continuous learning is all about change. As you learn more, you can easily see what is working well for you and How to Change your future progress. The window of knowledge can open up a whole new level of awareness for you.
This has been my Standard Operating Procedure for the past 30 years. Every week I’m reading a Business Book (yes, real books and the Kindle versions!) and it is amazing what I have learned. I have learned all about Quality processes, Business to Business Selling, Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, Sociology (culture and age related economic trends), Strategic Planning, Using Analytics to track results, Building Websites, Building a Marketing System for the Internet, and the list goes on. I used these to improve as a leader first and then to help my clients to improve their skills and wisdom. It has been a wonderful experience and I owe it all to Continuous Learning.
In most cases change comes with assistance from an outside source or expert. Someone who has actually experienced the change you desire can accelerate your change without the risk element of chance hurting you. Again, the first C of Choices comes into play as to who you want to assist you. Beware of the “Best Friend” or “Family Help” since they may have a slightly different agenda than you and create risk elements for you. You want to find someone who has done what you want before you, has experiences to assist and guide you through the change process.
The Key here is to realize the Status Que is not helpful to you and Change is something you employ with the first two C’s to get to Your Next Level of Success.
