E in Breakthrough equals Energize
Energize is key for getting started in the first place. Then, you carry forward and take on every breakthrough in your life.
Energy comes from passion. When you are passionate about a project, task, job or goal, an new level of energy engages your mind, body and spirit. I have seen this happen to people literally overnight. Once the passion enters the picture, the energy to achieve it comes next.
Have you ever noticed the people working around you? Watch for signs relative to their energy levels, posture, demeanor and focus. By watching these factors you can easily tell if a person has the passion to achieve new breakthroughs.
What we see most of the time are people going through the motions for 8 hours – actually they are only present in body as their mind is off in other locations thinking about what they really want to be doing at the moment. These are the same people who run out of energy around three in the afternoon and begin talking about how soon it will be time to leave.
So how do you gain this extra energy to achieve at the higher levels? You do the things you love and the things that get you excited to go work on. This is the key to energizing yourself to handle the rigors of new projects, challenging the unknown and taking in some cases a giant leap of faith toward to new beginning or project.
It is your obligation – to yourself – to find what creates passion for you. If you want new levels of energy – find out what gets you excited and then do it. Again, most people only think about the money they make and then put in the hours to make that amount of money. This is shallow thinking in our experience because we have seen people follow they passion, become excellent at whatever that is, and surprise-surprise, the money follows the effort of excellence.
For leaders and managers of organizations, the key to your long term success is to find people who match the work or job traits. In fact, we suggest that you first let the job talk and determine the traits and characteristics necessary for the job to be excellent. Then it is only a matter of finding the talent that matches the job. The closer the match, the better the long term performance.
Notice the use of “long-term” when discussing performance. How do we know this works? We track the results. And, the data is showing higher retention levels (over 90+% retention for high level jobs with clear matches to the position) and thus longer term employees. The key here is the talent that matches a job are using their natural strengths to perform their duties. Therefore, higher levels of energy, higher levels of performance and fewer errors and rework.
Simple systems that require discipline of execution to create a high performance culture with the high energy levels leaders want for their organizations. What do your systems of selection do for your culture? Are you top-grading every year?
