Discipline Determines Your Success
In this day and age of fast paced gadgets and ADD marketing buzz, could it be that good old discipline really determines your level of success? Could Discipline be the real bottom-line for Success – period?
My believe is that discipline is the key determinant to mine and your level of success. There are several reasons that discipline is the master key to your success.
First, discipline is needed to stick to the actions necessary for achieving a goal, solving a problem, finishing a project or hitting an outcome you desired. Without discipline, taking a laissez-faire attitude and using “hope” as your main strategy would prevail and nothing would get finished. Focused actions are the only thing that will get results – which requires discipline.
Second, discipline will keep you focused upon the highest priority outcomes and projects. This will allow you to say “no” to the fun and easy things that lead – “no where.” When discipline and focus are working together – you become an unstoppable force.
Third, discipline allows you to feel good about yourself and builds your personal self-esteem. Self-esteem is the foundation for high performance in everything you do. It gives you the confidence to know you can do it and do it well.
Finally, discipline is the key to separating the winners and losers. Losers have no discipline – they have no goals, little results (usually of the low priority variety.), lack confidence in themselves and have a tendency to blame others for their level of performance. Winners on the other hand, know what they want, set priorities and action plans, have confidence in their abilities and execute their plans to get the results and outcomes – they want.
Examine your personal level of discipline. Is it high, medium or low? How much focus do you place on performance priorities? Do you check your weekly progress toward success and achievement? Do you have system to check your progress toward outcomes and results?
All these questions can assist you in determining your progress and how important it is to use discipline in your daily life. Laziness is the opposite of discipline and is the killer of success and achievement. If you feel out of control or having a lack of motivation – then make a list of important items or actions necessary to achieve a higher level goal – and launch on the highest priority. The act of starting an action step gives you added motivation to continue forward.
