5 Obstacles to Growth

Growth StepsGrowth is the key factor in everything we do. From Business Growth, Opportunity Growth, Financial Growth or Personal Growth – the key connection is Growth. Positive Growth is more accurate. Growth is our lifeline to the future. Think about periods of no growth – like the “Great Recession” several years ago. The decline in growth hurt – revenues declined, incomes declined, homes were lost, jobs were lost, morale was low, and people were naturally more negative about things. Growth is the only thing that can substantially change the course of the low ebb tide of performance and mindsets. Without growth, we would still be in this mental and actual bind of negativity and decline. So how can we improve Growth? What can leaders do to increase the opportunities for growth? What can individuals do to improve their growth opportunities? Here’s how…

Eliminate these Five Key Obstacles to Growth

  1. There is No Time for a Change Plan There is always time to plan – you just need to place a high priority on your need to change. Seriously, change is the only constant in our live today. In fact, change is all around us so if there is no ongoing plan for change – then you are living by the Law of Accident. Meaning you are totally reactive to the environment around you rather than designing and creating your own future.
  2. How do I Know What to Plan for Growth? No plan with certainly lead you to status quo or no growth. Do some research, watch trends in your life-business-market-customers, and read the beginning of the year trend statements made by others. Then dialogue with others to form a foundation of where the highest probabilities of change will occur and record it in your notes or journal. Also, check your own results – which direction are your trends? Up, Down or Sideways? Use these as a guide to review your own processes and seek improvement by changing the causes to your results. Remember, Hope is not a strategy.
  3. Lack of Vision to Focus Change Successfully to Grow? Here is a chance to dialogue with others – especially smart people who keep up to date with their networks of people & organizations. Have spirited dialogues about the future, what needs to change, AND how to best change the future? These dialogues will improve your clarity of what could be. Another technique is to use the 20 Idea Method. Write a Question at the top of the page. Then answer the question with a minimum of 20 possible answers. Then implement an answer immediately. Do this for one month and watch yourself become one of the most innovative thinkers in your environment.
  4. Don’t Know How to Change? Mindsets and Old Scripts are the issue here. People are naturally creative as children. Adults and school systems create the blocks in our mindset as to our ability or even need to change. You will need to engage yourself, trust yourself and reconnect with your natural creativity to actively change what needs changing.   5. Uncertain of Status within a Growth Cycle This one is a little more difficult for people and organizations. The reason for the difficulty is change needs to begin – when everything is going well! That is correct – when everything is going well, you need to be involved in developing the next “wave” of success. This is really true in business and a major obstacle to success. A new Product or Service usually cannibalize an existing profitable product or service. So there is natural hesitation to change and innovate. Big Mistake.This is time to use the funds to reinvent the future business including the products and services. In fact, this is a Major Factor for Start Up Entrepreneurs with less than 20 employees on their staff. New Product Development is a Non-Negotiable Factor if the Entrepreneur wants to build a Financially Strong Enterprise which creates Value for the Entrepreneur.
