Many times the words character and personality are used interchangeably.  While related, there are distinct differences between the two words and their meanings.

Character is often used to define a person’s integrity, such as he has “upstanding character” or “his character is lacking.”  Character is actually a set of behavior traits that define what type of person you are.  Do you follow the rules of your “group?”  Many times people who do not follow the rules of the group, whether it is a family group, work group, or religious group, are not accepted by the group.    This tenant and tendency has been in place since the beginning of time.   Continue reading ‘Is There a Difference Between Character and Personality?’ »

Today I received an email asking me a simple question.  The email came from one of the generic search engines from only who knows where.  But it was such a profound question.   The simple question was, “What if you could not be given any more friends, love, money, etc. until you appreciate what you already have?”

Wow!   Pretty loaded question!   But it is a good exercise in gratitude and in realizing what is often surrounding us and what we take for granted.  Most often we think money will buy us happiness.  So we spend a great part of our lives chasing money.  Money is important, please understand that! But let’s look at what money will and will not buy: Continue reading ‘Money versus Prosperity’ »

Every CEO or business owner should know who his or her top performers are.  Every department manager and division manager should also know each top performer by name and by types of motivation .  Why motivation type?   Because we all have intrinsic motivators that make us tick (or not!)

Top performers are often referred to as “A Players” or “high potential employees”.  What sets these employees apart from the average employee?  They bring to your company: Continue reading ‘Can you Afford NOT TO TRAIN Your Top Performers’ »

There is an over-abundance of toxic talk lately.   Economy, joblessness, unemployment, underemployment… So, what is toxic talk?  Toxic talk, whether expressed internally or externally, is conversations that are poisonous.  Yes, conversations can act as poison.

In mid-evil times poison was placed on arrows that were then were poised and strung into bows to kill the enemy.   This same effect is seen when our words and conversations with others are toxic.  The same is true of our thoughts, also known as self-talk.

Words that are toxic, harsh, cruel, and negative can harm and even kill relationships and friendships, stifle productivity and creativity, and can even cause stress and illness if the words come often enough. Continue reading ‘Toxic Talk Killing Your People Skills?’ »

Sometimes the word “collaboration” brings up negative connotations.  Many times the negative connotations come from opposing sides of the perceptions people have of the word itself.  Some people will bristle at the word because they think it means to give in or compromise (passivity.) The reverse thinking gives rise to negative connotations when yet others perceive collaboration to mean “aggressively forcing people to agreement” (aggression.)

In actuality, neither perception is correct.  True collaboration is neither passive nor aggressive.  When done well and for the right reasons, collaboration is a skill necessary for effective communication in all realms, whether in a personal relationship, inside the C-Suite, or in the call center.  Collaboration is the perfect balancing tool for effective leadership. Before you ask yourself “why” should I engage with InnerActive Consulting Group, let’s look a bit deeper and find out “why” the consulting group chose this name?

First of all, this group had fifteen years of SUCCESS operating as Kaizen Performance Group in Memphis, Tennessee.  With this success came instant name recognition! But branding efforts flushed out the need for a name change since Kaizen could not be branded because another business as well as a quality initiative had previously claimed the Kaizen brand.

So…InnerActive Consulting Group was born.  The consultants here are truly catalysts for change.  And real change begins with “inner” thoughts and beliefs.  Inner thoughts migrate to the outer world in the form of taking action.

Equation:  Thoughts + Actions = Results
Hence:  InnerActive Consulting Group

With over twenty years of business- to- business consulting and B2B selling as well as personal development training, one of InnerActive Consulting Group’s primary principles remains “to work with beliefs to improve both life and work issues.”

…Getting You to the Next Level

It is more Emotionally Intelligent (and Healthy)

We all have things about which we feel very strongly.  It may be our political affiliation, our religious beliefs (or not), or the state of the economy.  Having passionate beliefs and feelings are normal and healthy behavior.  However, expressing them in a loud or disrespectful manner is neither healthy nor emotionally intelligent.

It becomes an unhealthy pattern for us is when we concentrate on what we don’t value instead of what we do value.  Just this small switch in perspective can make a huge change in our daily lives.  When we focus on what we “don’t like”, our energy is simply not being used wisely. Human beings are achievement oriented.  While there must be time for rest and recreation built into our lives, achievement orientation is what has allowed civilizations to thrive and carry on.   In short, achievement and growth are what have sustained the human population over time.

Douglas Mallock said, “Find your joy in something finished and not a thousand things begun.” This insightful statement speaks to the exclusively human need to actually produce results.  Don’t we all feel a sense of accomplishment and excitement when we see a project through to completion?  Once the project is complete, we may rest for a few hours or a few days and then our orientation for achievement begins to generate new ideas.  Thus, creativity and productivity are enhanced for the next round of ideas and implementation.

Here is a list of Ideas to stimulate personal achievement: Continue reading ‘Do You Have an Achievement Orientation?’ »
